Here We Go Round By Jenny Mosley & Helen Sonnet £21.50

Written for practitioners working with 3-5 year old children in response to the original DCSF’s Early Learning Goals, this book is indispensable. Following the Quality Circle Time rationale, there are activity plans for ten circle sessions for each of the six areas of learning, with guidance notes, objectives and fun ideas to continue the themes. Well planned and carefully age appropriate, here is an exciting formula to develop listening, confidence, thinking and spoken language. If you want to develop SEAD and ECaT in your schools then this book is for you. “An extremely practical resource, full of ideas … easy to follow. These are the sparks to light the flame.” Special Children “This book is excellent for SEAD.” Jane Mansfield, National Strategies Advisor. (PP) 141pp b&w paperback/A4

Reviews

Below are some reviews for this item

  • This book is a useful introduction for the foundation stage for circle time activities with three-to-five year olds. The first part covers some basic practicalities in introducing circle time to young children, and then 10 activities for each of six areas of learning are outlined. The book is simply and clearly laid out, with learning objectives for each activity. The tone is upbeat, although there is no space here for considering the problems that may arise in working with young children, or any assessment of teaching and learning. (Robert Fisher – TES) This book sets out how to introduce quality circle time to pre-school children. Previous books written by Jenny Mosley tended to concentrate on circle time in schools, so it is a welcome addition to her publications. A member of my staff attended an early years conference based on Jenny’s ideas and was so inspired by the concept that she has introduced it in the nursery. All early years practitioners using circle time or thinking of introducing it will benefit greatly from this book. It has 3 parts. The first part explains how quality circle time works and how to set up sessions successfully. The second part gives practical advice on how to introduce the concept to the children in your setting and gives examples and suitable phrases to include. The final section explains in detail how to link circle time to the six areas of learning objectives and suggested topics. Further activities to explore are also included. This book is clearly set out, with lots of simple diagrams and easy-to-read text. If you have no idea what circle time is about then this book will take you step by step through the process. But is you are already familiar with the concept, don’t ignore the book either; it has lots of practical ideas to extend your knowledge and improve your sessions.
