A Quality Circle Time book published in India for India.

Sun, Nov 21st 2004

Jenny Mosley's work in India over the last few years has been both rewarding and stimulating. We are delighted that the Teacher Foundation, who are working closely with Jenny on projects for Indian schools, have now published the 'Handbook of Quality Circle Time in India' (by The Teacher Foundation, published by the Teacher Storehouse, Bangalore, 2004).

In her foreword, Jenny relives the reasons for her design of the Quality Circle Time Model. 'The Model', writes Jenny, 'reflects the needs of contemporary society'... Using a step-by-step approach, behaviours and skills are taught carefully and cheerfully. Children learn to value themselves, care for one another, and to co-operate and interact in ways that increase everyone's sense of being in an emotionally safe place, where they can grow and thrive and take risks which could lead to excellence in their fields.'

Teachers have contributed lesson plans and schemes of work for this thoughtful book, full of bright ideas. Also contained are helpful comments from practitioners and teachers using the model.

One teacher writes that Circle Time: 'Creates trust and promotes personal and collective responsibility.'

Another adds that: 'In circle time children learn to solve problems, extend help and assimilate ideas.'

In all, the book provides an insight into inspirational visions for teaching children and nurturing their emotional development.
