“In The Round” from Nursery World magazine September 2005

Mon, Sep 19th 2005

This A3 colour article, in Nursery World magazine August 2005, focuses upon an extract from Jenny Mosley’s book “Circle Time for Young Children”, part of the Nursery World / Routledge series.

In this extract, the aims and objectives of circle time are described. In addition, the five stages of circle meetings are described:

· The first stage is ‘meeting up’, a fun session which is usually a game.

· The second stage is ‘warming up’, where the children are given a chance to say something simple in turn while passing round an object.

· The third stage is ‘opening up’, the key stage of the circle meeting providing an opportunity for games or activities designed to help children understand social, emotional or behavioural issues.

· The fourth stage is ‘cheering up’ - to help children move away from concerning issues and to celebrate successes.

· The fifth and final stage is ‘calming down’, ending in a closing ritual.
