Jenny Mosley Inspires Nursery Managers at kidsunlimited annual conference
Tue, Dec 1st 2009
National children’s day nursery provider, kidsunlimited, held their annual conference on Wednesday and Thursday 25th and 26th November and welcomed childcare guru, Jenny Mosley as guest speaker.
The event, named ‘Through the eyes of a child’, saw kidsunlimited nursery managers from their 54 sites across the country coming together to take part in inspirational and motivational seminars and presentations. It was also an opportunity for company bosses to reiterate KU’s commitment to excellence when caring for children, reinforce the key principles of EYFS and showcase several brand new kidsunlimited programmes due to be rolled out in 2010.
Jenny Mosley opened the event with a rousing interactive presentation relating to the social and emotional development of children, our own emotional intelligence and how important it is to care for ourselves in order to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and parents. Jenny told the delegates of the importance of the “science of emotions” and she reminded them that recent developments in childcare really are “common sense repackaged with scientific research”.
Jenny commented:
“This is a wonderfully positive event for all involved. I think the kidsunlimited name evokes everything that is fundamental to childcare; to be unlimited means being the best you can be, without being limited by other people’s judgments. kidsunlimited understand that we must constantly strive to grow and change in order to help other people around us grow. It is so important to have this attitude within nursery settings if we are to help shape the hearts and minds of our future generations”.

Attendees at the conference were given the opportunity to sample the new inclusive kidsunlimited offer, due to be launched in December 2009, that includes: ku:sign, ku:cookery and ku:gardening and were also informed of the other new elements of the offer being introduced in early 2010, ku:active, ku:dance and ku:music.
Details of the brand new kidsunlimited website being launched this month were also revealed to managers at the conference as well as news of another four kidsunlimited nurseries due to open across the country in 2010.
Following the event, kidsunlimited Managing Director, Lee Pearson said:
“This has been an extremely successful event and has provided us with an opportunity to communicate our plans for the business and for individual nurseries throughout the coming year. We wanted to also take the opportunity to reiterate to staff our continual expectations of them in terms of excellence and high standards. Feedback from our managers has been superb and we look forward to rolling out our complete offer in 2010”.

Editors’ Notes:
· The new kidsunlimited offer comprises:
ku:sign – Being able to make sense of visual and verbal signs including facial expressions and hand gestures enables babies to become skilful communicators. To assist with this important learning and development ku:sign is used in the nurseries with babies from eight months. ku:sign empowers non-verbal communicators, especially babies, as they become able to control their physical movements. They can express their needs and make themselves understood.

ku:cookeryis designed to help children understand different tastes and textures. The practical understanding of what happens when you bake food and change it from cold to hot or runny to solid helps children explore “what happens if…” and the basic scientific concepts associated with it. Weighing, measuring and counting all for part of ku:cookery. ku:cookery also educates children on the benefits of healthy eating and encourages and supports the development of good habits that will accompany them going to school.
ku:gardeningaims to encourage children’s natural interests and curiosity and helps them understand the world around them, building upon the principles of the six areas of learning.
ku:active – (due to be launched in January 2010). Through a wide range of physical activities, including playing with balls, hoops, ropes, cones and skittles, children’s gross and fine motor skills are developed. Our carers are trained to build children’s confidence in physical activities, encouraging them to learn about safe risk taking and persisting in their play and activities.
ku:dance – (due to be launched in March 2010) is a programme specifically designed to help children understand how their bodies move through responding to music and encouraging natural and spontaneous movement. Children learn to move with confidence and imagination, safely developing a sense of awareness, space, self and others.
ku:music(due to be launched in March 2010) encourages children from babies to pre-schoolers to experiment with and explore sound. They can express different emotions through using different rhythms or volumes and moving to music helps children to learn about timing and beats.
