My first day at school - as a consultant! by Valerie Fleet
Sat, Jan 1st 2005
I was so excited about my first booking as a Jenny Mosley Consultant. Even though I’d run courses in my own school it is very different doing so in an official capacity. Supported by Sarah and Maggie my programme was all in order, my bags packed and my kit bag ready to go. The venue was in Manchester on the first day after the Summer holiday. From experience I know that teachers are not always overjoyed to be back!
The session was for two schools, as they were in the process of amalgamating. I had been asked to run a morning session on team building and promoting staff self-esteem. In the hotel room I set three alarm calls just in case! From waking up in the morning to arriving at the school was planned with military precision. Most of the two groups of teachers had not had the opportunity to meet before or to visit each other’s schools. Despite this, and with the co-operation of the staff involved, the session went really well. I was so thrilled when I got home to read all the positive comments on the evaluations. One said that I was calm and confident – little did they know!
