Praise Pod aims high!

Tue, Mar 23rd 2010

We are always interested in discovering projects that are exciting, creative and complementary to the Quality Circle Time model. Within the Quality Circle Time model there is the ‘Golden Time’ system of positively reinforcing good behaviour and following the ‘Golden Rules’. Alongside this system I always recommend having additional ‘special’ ways of praising, treating and celebrating children who express positive values and great behaviour and Praise Pod does exactly this.

Praise Pod is a modern approach to positive behaviour reinforcement that goes well beyond the classroom and school and it utilises modern multimedia technology. It is also a simple human process that starts with someone noticing another person’s positive actions. These are acknowledged through a visit to the Praise Pod- a special place in school set up with video capture software to allow filming of the visitor. This short video clip is then made available to parents through a range of media.

Imagine as you are reading this you receive a video clip of your child talking proudly about an amazing idea they have had that day, or explaining how they summoned up the confidence to talk out loud in front of the whole school, or how they helped include another pupil in their game at lunchtime. The reason for visiting praise pod is always personalised to the child; it is always a significant moment for them. And it is always a positive quality.

At ArbourthorneCommunityPrimary school in Sheffield, Praise Pod, in conjunction with circle-time, is helping embed eight core values across the whole school community. Not only is this producing changes in school, but parents are commenting how they have noticed changes in their children’s behaviour and attitude. For example one parent told the head teacher that her daughter praised her for aiming high (one of the school’s core values).
