Primary Strategy Learning Networks

Thu, Feb 17th 2005

What exactly are Primary Strategy Learning Networks? These are “groups of schools working together to improve children’s learning”.

The DfES website states that “schools working together in networks can add significantly to teachers’ professional development and children’s learning.”

To this end funding has been made available to promote Primary Strategy Learning Networks in order to share good practice and expertise, creating diversity ad creativity to improve teaching and learning in primary schools.

“The purpose of the Primary Strategy Learning Networks is to ensure that every teacher in every primary school, presently in a network or not, has the opportunity to work within a group of schools with the aim of strengthening pupil learning and implementing effective continuing professional development programmes.”
From DfES Website Jan / Feb 2005

With January 2005 being a closing date for schools to make their statement of intent, Schools should be informed of which networks are to be funded in mid-February 2005 when fund-holding schools will receive funding. After this, the networks will use the DfES-provided planning materials and submit actions plans by May 2005. Full funding is to be released after LEAs have approved network action plans.
