Synopsis
This dissertation is concerned with the personal, social and emotional development of children in schools in Etritrea, focusing in particular on the circle time approach in curriculum development.
The first chapter concentrates on the Eritrean context and examines the pastoral work in the Zero school from 1976-1991
It tries to find connections between the struggle for independence and the education experience in Eritrea. It examines the theoretical underpinnings of Personal and Social Education and of Mosley's Circle Time approach.
The methodology used in this study is library based. The library-based method has been instrumental in examining theoretical issues in depth. As well as information from the literature, the dissertation uses the writers experiences from involvement in the Circle Time model's activities. In addition some short interviews about Eritrean education PSE experience have been added to supplement the sparse Eritrean literature.
This study, based on theoretical and practical research findings, concludes with some basic recommendations, The study showed the need for further research on the subject as well as the significance of the link between theory and experience.
