It was great to return to Gloucestershire this week to hold one of our Open Conferences. The conference was supported through help with organisation and marketing by members of the Advisory Teaching Service in Gloucester. Both days were very well-attended with an enthusiastic group of delegates!
On Tuesday 20th Jenny started with a day on Better Behaviour for Learning, focusing upon key aspects of the Golden Model, improving social skills and helping everyone to work together as a team. Jenny worked with a circle of children with delegates observing. As ever, they were searingly honest. When debating with each other the pros and cons of their current consequence system, one boy said ‘well it can’t be working ‘cos I have to do it every day!!
Day two, Wednesday 21st, was for anyone involved in lunchtimes and playtimes. Jenny discussed aspects of the Dining Hall and playground, inspiring people to get more involved in organising activities and making lunchtimes calmer but also more enjoyable for children. Again, children were brought in to the afternoon session to work with the delegates to learn more playground games. Great fun was had by the delegates remembering some of the games they used to play – and laughter filled the room – making us all want to make playtimes happier.
Jenny contributed lots of inspiring ideas and practicalities for people to take back to their schools and settings. Many thanks for everyone who contributed and/or came along for the conference. Do keep in touch!
