My Well-Travelled Companions

I love visiting different schools every week, working with amazing leaders, teachers, assistants, supervisors and children – everyone with so much potential to offer the world.

It is also interesting taking round my bookstall and catalogue full of resources, designed to help bring about learning, development and positive change. Some of my resources receive more attention than others, however. These two loveable puppets are sometimes my constant companions.

I took them both recently to the County Meath Childcare Committee conference in Navan (see blog here about this day). The day was for 124 Early Years practitioners who gave up their Saturday for a great conference day – with fun, laughter, sharing and learning.

Funnily though, I do find when I bring out these puppets, people start to play with them – even when I’m not even looking. They may do selfies with them or just set them up doing activities and then take photographs of them. It’s amazing and great fun!  Children can be exactly the same – there is definitely something magnetic about puppets. Some classes have a puppet that is set out to be the class mascot, almost like a member of the class and children can get quite upset if they don’t come on school trips and share in class celebrations.

If you need any help finding inspiration or confidence for using puppets, you know where to come. We are very fortunate to have sourced some great animal and people puppets for our catalogue, do take a look at our puppets here.
